This is one of my favorite illustrations. It was done more as a doodle, probably took no more than a half hour, one day after school in high school. But I’ve always loved it because I love the poem so much. I have dreams of re-doing it in a really awesome way someday for Calvin (whose birthday is in July).

A boat beneath a sunny sky
Lingering onward dreamily
In an evening of July

Children there that nestle near
Eager eye and willing ear
Pleased a simple tale to hear

Long has paled the sunny sky
Echoes fade and memories die
Autumn frosts have slain July

Still she haunts me phantomwise
Alice ever moving skies
Never seen by waking eyes

Children yet the tale to hear
Eager eye and willing ear
Lovingly shall nestle near

In a wonderland they lie
Dreaming as the days go by
Dreaming as the summers die

Ever drifting down the stream
Lingering in the golden gleam
Life, what is it, but a dream?

-Lewis Carroll

I went {a little} crazy at the end of my pregnancy with Everett. I was so excited but had some severe nesting issues (my next post will be about how I decided to repaint the entire living room (in the exact same color) two weeks before I was due). Kellie offered to take the kids to the zoo for the day so I could get some rest, but I decided it would be better for me to walk around the zoo for the day. Hopefully that would put me into labor, and/or get my mind off all the many projects at my house. Well, it accomplished one of the two.

DSC00003July has to be the best month of the year. There is something going on no less than every 48 hours. On this evening it was roasting marshmallows – in the rain – in Kellie’s back yard. The lovely night was capped off with a GINORMOUS beautiful rainbow.

“I’ll build you a rainbow – way up high above, sprinkle down raindrops, teardrops of love”

Imagine me singing that for you – in my most falseto voice ;-)
