Calvin’s Quilt – The Summer Chronicles

This summer I made Calvin a quilt for his birthday.
I always idealized that when we had a cabin, my kids would have warm, cuddly quilts to snuggle under on the cool mornings. So when we bought a cabin just a couple weeks before Calvin’s birthday, I knew exactly what I wanted to make for him!
I’ve been saving my old jeans for a few years for the day when I finally had the courage to attempt a quilt.
I looked on pinterest for pattern ideas and came across this one. It didn’t look too hard to replicate, so I set to work.
It only took me about a week to get the top put together, but another month to finish it (I missed his birthday, and after that my steam ran low).
But I finished it! I was (am) soooo proud of myself. Quilting has always been an art form I’ve admired from a distance. They’re so fun, but look like so much work (and it was). Quilting always seemed outside my attention span.
But I finished this one, and I’m tickled pink with how lovely it is. I backed it with an off white minky furry fabric (I wanted it to look like wool, but so much softer). It is the coziest quilt – heavy so it comforts, soft so it cuddles, and thick so it warms.
Happy Birthday Calvin, love!
