2017 is a big year for our family! And one of the highlights of the year was that Everett would turn 8! (It’s a big deal!)
We sure love our Everett. He has the kindest heart, and the greatest desire to serve and help others. He is more aware of how others are doing than all the rest of us combined. He is soooooo sweet. Mmmm, just wanna mush on him.
This year his birthday was on a Sunday – so we opened presents first thing, and then went to church. Afterward we had cake and ice cream. We got trick candles for him, and each time the candles would lite we would sing Happy Birthday again. We sang to him for about 5 minutes – it was the funniest thing ever! And I really think Everett loved all the fun attention. Of course- by that time my phone was dead, so no video.
For his birthday party we invited six of his friends and took them to see Cars 3, then came home to have cake and ice cream at our house. I didn’t get any pictures of that either. Man, I’m not doing so well these days!

Calvin memorizes his Articles of Faith and Cuts Dad’s tie off
Nate graduates from Nursery and moves into Primary.
Life isn’t always an event – lots of days are just spent doing our work, goofing off, and *trying* to stay out of trouble. Here are some pictures of the random moments.
We were invited to a neighbor’s house for FHE one night. Our neighbor had the kids act out a Book of Mormon story.
Went to birthday lunch with some of my favorites.
Olivia spent a good amount of time riding Nate around like this.
Taking Sheriff and YZ on a walk.
I spent the change day canning a few batches of my grandma’s secret recipe salsa. YUMMM!
Friends – always friends.
PLEASE IGNORE my gross dirty mirror – Wyatt taught Calvin how to tie a tie.
Hey good lookin’!
Everyone should have a sunshine. But not everyone does. I hit the jackpot.
Beautiful skies on a hike one day. I thought I might paint this someday.
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful boy.
I got called into Cub Scouts. YAY! So excited for these fun boys!
Got us ice cream cones at the High Mountain Cafe.
Went on explores at the cabin and found places I’d never been before.
Admired so many sunsets.
Olivia set out quite the spread for conference weekend.
The normal shenanigans.
Another pretty sky.
More cub scouts.
Olivia was turning 12. I planned to let her choose if she wanted to get her ears pierced (she had actually NEVER asked for this before). Then Wyatt gave me earings for our anniversary, so I decided when I got home that we would go a little early of her 12th birthday, and make a day of it.
So, after school one day we drove down to the mall and got our ears pierced. I think Olivia was excited to be seen as more grown up!
For our anniversary this year Wyatt went all out and took me to San Diego for the U2 Joshua Tree concert. I was super excited to go! While we were there we also did a ton of other fun stuff as it popped into our head (we really didn’t have any plans for the weekend besides the concert, but man oh man did we pack it in!)
But oops! We ordered what we thought were just a couple small appetizers to share. It turned out to be WAY too much food. So we packed some up and went outside to find someone who might appreciate it.
We flew down on Thursday. We went to the beach and walked around the gas lamp district. That evening we went to a Padre’s game. FUN!
Sunset over the San Diego bay.
At the Gas Lamp district.
The next day we spend the bulk of the day at the USS Missouri Battleship museum. We love history and WWII, so this was a lot of fun for us. After that we went to the Mormon Battalion Visitors Center and Museum, we LOVE church history, so that was a lot of fun too. That evening we went to the concert! YAY!!!!!
Saturday- you won’t believe this – we went to Disneyland! By ourselves! With no kids. It was a lot of fun. We ran all over the park hitting all the big rides, eating in the park, doing things we never do when kids are with us. It was a great time.
But I will say, Disneyland is MORE AWESOME when you have five kids with you.
But it was such a fun weekend.
The next morning we flew home.
Thank you Wyatt for such a memorable jam-packed weekend.
This year Calvin and Everett played football. I think they had a lot of fun and learned a lot on their respective teams. We enjoyed spending the evenings at the park watching them play.
Especially since he got his braces off!
