One Week

July 4, 2013 2 comments

Monday Roo was sick, so we layed low until baseball/tee ball that night.

Tuesday we went to Art in the Park. That night we went over to the Engh’s to enjoy night games until way past bedtime.

Wednesday we drove over Gaurdsman Pass with Ashley and her little lovelies. The kids hiked into the forest and found an awesome tree fort built right there on the side of the mountain! We got ice cream cones in Park City before heading home for more baseball/t-ball.

Thursday we had Oaklee come over for the day! So much fun to play with cousins.

Friday Calvin had a birthday party, and Emmett, Mason, Anna and Brighton came over to play. We turned on the sprinkler under the trampoline and the kids ate about a billion popsicles in the first 100 degree heat of summer.

Later that afternoon we packed up and went to Silver Lake in American Fork canyon for an evening of fishing and puttering around in the canoes.

That night we had a camp-out at Grandma Lois’s house. She was gone out of town, but we made ourselves at home building a campfire in the backyard and cooking s’mores and jumping on the trampoline.

Saturday Wyatt went stream fishing with Lance. When he got back we packed up and went to Oakley.

We caught a frog in the river. It KILLS me that I didn’t have my camera to take pictures of the kids as they caught the frog, then he’d get away, then they’d scream at the top of their lungs (all four of them) and chase it down and catch it again, and the whole process would start all over again. It was SO MUCH FUN!!!

We went on a top-secret-errand that won’t be revealed until later this summer (hopefully!), we came home in the nick of time for church (good, since Wyatt was conducting!) and then later we invited the Smiths and Enghs down to eat ice cream and pick fresh peas from the garden (well, that activity was more incidental) and talk about nothing-important-at-all while the kids jumped and swung and generally had a wild time of it.

Monday was more errands and baseball/tball.

Tuesday we had Art in the Park, and this week I was in charge of it . . . I had the kids make patriotic wind socks 😀

That afternoon we went up to Blackhawk campground in Payson canyon. I went camping there a number of times growing up – we would take our horses up every summer and ride through the mountains for a weekend. My sister Beez decided to recreate that for all of us and hauled her horses all the way from St. George!

We also swam in Payson lake, which is the nicest lake swimming I’ve ever found.

We had a campout dinner and the kids went on explores before it started to get dark and we packed up to come home.

MORE TO COME ON THE GOINGS ON OF A CHRISTENSEN SUMMER. . .

We found a great tree fort about 300 yards up the trail at the very top of Gaurdsman Pass. The kids had a great time playing fort.

We went to Silver Lake in AF Canyon to try out our new canoes. The kids had fun motoring around the lake (no paddling for me!) but had more fun exploring the shore.
DSC_3260
I made the kids all look at the camera at the same time just once.

Everett and Roo showing off the fish Wyatt caught. Roo was SO EXCITED!!

Calvin is learning how to gut fish. This was his second fish this week that he got to gut.
DSC_3293
After playing at Silver Lake we came down the canyon and had a camp out in Grandma Christensen's back yard (she was out of town). The kids loved the S'Mores that we made.
DSC_3324
We went up to Oakley one afternoon, and caught a frog in the river! I didn't have my camera on me at the time, but the kids went nuts! Later I was able to get this picture of the kids throwing rocks swimming hole (I told them they could NOT get in, much to their dismay). I couldn't get them to take their eyes off their fun long enough to look at me for a picture!
DSC_3390
My silly kids thought these mustaches were the funniest things ever!!
DSC_3396
Roo enjoys afternoons at the baseball games of his older siblings (just kidding, he cries most of the time. This smile is a rare moment to the reality of trying to entertain him while watching the game).
DSC_3420
Olivia and Calvin are much more easily entertained while they wait their turn to play their game. They can just roll down the hill or chew on the grass.
DSC_3427
Everett is having a ton of fun playing T-Ball.
DSC_3435
I was in charge of Art in the Park this week. We made patriotic wind socks.
DSC_3459
Another mom brought a big parachute to play games after the art project. It's so fun to live in a neighborhood/community where there is support for each other and each other's children in activities like these.
DSC_3471
Roo enjoyed his pink cupcake so much he decided to go back and help himself to a blue one . . .
DSC_3483
We brought our windsocks home and hung them up just in time for the 4th of July!
DSC_3498
Olivia caught a damsel fly at Payson lake. (I think its wings were wet so it couldn't fly away).
DSC_3502
The lake had a nice sandy shore and warm water. The kids all enjoyed swimming there.
DSC_3519
Olivia, Calvin, and Everett really had fun on Grandma's pink noodle . . . but then they discovered the logs that were floating in the lake that did the same thing. So much fun!
DSC_3545
Oh look! A picture with me in it! A rare thing indeed. This is me and Roo playing on the shore of the lake.
DSC_3585
Calvin may need dental work.
DSC_3591
Olivia was SOOOOOO SOOOOOO SOOOOO excited to ride the horses in the mountains. She told all her friends, and every stranger that she met for two days before that she was going to ride horses in the mountains. She told me she didn't need help because she already knew how to ride. Unfortunately I didn't buy it and still insisted on riding with her or leading her. I didn't get run away with until after I was 8, I don't think she'd enjoy the experience at her age . . .

At first Grandma led Olivia around the field, but she wasn't happy with that. She wanted to ride by herself. We compromised, and I rode with her, but she held the reigns.
DSC_3703
Beth made the best camp dinner I've ever had. Even the kids licked their plates clean. YUM!
DSC_3711
Roo had a lot of fun too. He has such a twinkle in his eye when he smiles I think.
DSC_3719
The wildflowers were beautiful.
DSC_3724
After swimming at the lake, riding horses, and eating dinner, the kids went on explores around the meadow.
DSC_3730
I spy with my little eye . . .
DSC_3747
On their explores, the kids found this "Nest"
DSC_3752
Olivia and Roo sitting in the grass in the meadow.

Soon enough we were all sitting in the "nest" talking as the light turned golden and then faded to grey. Finally it was time to pack up and head home.
