I have been gone for nearly three weeks (17 days to be exact). What could have taken me away from my little lovelies for so long? Well, last summer it was announced (and I determined to go) that Lexi’s wedding would be in Virginia. I planned to go for a week because I’ve never spent any time back east, and I wanted a few days to just explore.
But then, just two weeks before I was to go, my dad emailed me and invited me along on a trip to Israel! How could I say no to that. It would be just a few days after my trip to Virginia (my trip was planned for Wednesday to Wednesday, and the Israel tour would start the following Sunday). So I decided to head straight from DC to Israel, where I kicked it on my own for a few days before meeting up with my Dad, my sister, Carrie, and her friend, Candace; we started our tour on Sunday night.
More to come on both of these trips.
But in the mean time, today is my first day back . . .
Taking such a long break gave me a chance to push pause on motherhood, and really reflect on how I’m doing – where my strengths are, where I need to do better. And when I had jet lag and was awake at three in the morning staring at the wall, I wrote it all down.
I have so many goals and ambitions in coming home – things to teach my children, personal progress I need to make, ways to better serve my family, ways to become the person I want to be.
This morning I awoke with full intention. I started my new “schedule,” as I call it (regimen, as Wyatt calls it) including help Olivia practice piano, make and eat a healthy breakfast, and get everyone dressed and ready for the day before we start in on our days activities.
Our first activity was to go on a bike ride. Nothing like a little sunshine and a little movement to start your day out right . . .
So we rode over to the park, where I sat on a bench for a few minutes while the kids played. Suddenly my eyes and throat started itching. I hurried the kids home as fast as snails, and ran to the bathroom to take my contacts out and swallow an allergy pill. My eyes were just killing me!!
So I haven’t had contacts in all day, and the only glasses I have are like five years old – and missing one side piece – and have paint splatters on the lenses. I look AWESOME in them.
It kinda killed my mojo for the day.
Still, we have things to do and adventures to be had! The kids started swimming lessons (Everett included this year), and baseball/t-ball. It’s going get good! Now if only I could see it . . .
