Olivia had her first day of first grade! This means she will be gone all day, five days a week. A part of my heart just broke off forever.
She, on the other hand, is as thrilled as can be! She carefully chose her outfit the night before (not letting me influence her choice at all – sniff. Not being able to choose her outfits – that’s one I’m going to have to let go of.)
On the morning of, she carefully looked over her schedule that she had drawn/written for herself. She accomplished each task with enough time for me to take some pictures.
We all walked her to the bus where we waved her good bye.
Then I jumped into the van and drove up to the school to greet her as she got of the bus and give her final hugs and kisses.
That afternoon (at 4:00! Good grief, she was gone all-day-long!!) when I picked her up from the bus she didn’t look to happy. But as soon as she reached me I asked her “How was your first day of school?” and she perked right up and said she really had a great time.
Her first grade teachers are Mrs. Beckstead and Mrs. Hou – they are both wonderful and I know she’s going to have a wonderful school year this year!
Another story about the first week of school –
I received a call on Friday from the school saying that Olivia needed some help with something, and would I please come up to the school right away.
I went up and when I got to the office, there was Goose, sitting in the office looking so shy and small.
And when I sat down to talk to her she said in her most quiet voice –
“Mom, I said a prayer that Heavenly Father would help me know what to do.”
And in her mind everything was ok. I helped her and sent her on her way out to lunch. She was so excited to be at school (and eating hot lunch!).
And that’s my Goose-Girl for you. Soft, sensitive, strong, independent, faithful, and full of fun!
