Today my Baby Sunshine was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was such a glorious and special day, and more details (with photos!) will follow soon. But today I wanted to share the special feelings I had of the day.
The whole event turned out beautifully! I was overcome with a sense of Olivia’s growing up as I sang the opening song, “When I Am Baptized” (Children’s Hymn #103). I really felt the amazement of all the past eight years squish together into one unbelievable moment when I realized that I was here – with my beautiful daughter, on her baptism day. She amazes me with her kindness and generosity of spirit, and also her good sense of fun, and her lovely uninhibited self.
Later there was another very special moment – after the baptism, as I was helping her get dressed. It was just she and I in the dressing room, and I knelt down to help her put on her shoes. I looked at her feet, and remembered looking at those toes. Oh, the times I would just sit with her in the pink chair, and stare at those toes! I haven’t really looked at them in such a long time, and then . . . there I was, helping to put on her new, white shoes for her baptism, and I caught a glimpse of those sweet little toes. Again, it made me feel the sweetness of the moment.
More fun memories will be coming, but I wanted to write down those two very special moments of today.
I am so proud of my little Goose Girl – the choices she is making and the person she is becoming. I hope this day will be a special one to her always!
