On Saturday a week and a half ago I took the kids to the D.I. to get some new summer reading books. Each kid took home 3 books, and I brought home several more that I wanted to read aloud to the kids.
Then the next Monday the kids came home with an announcement – a flyer saying the school would be having a book fair, and they were having a buy one, get one free special.
So we went to the school book fair where each kid got two more books.
Then yesterday Calvin came home and told me if we went to Barnes and Noble and filled out a little activity paper they had, we could get a free book there. Tonight I loaded up the little lovelies and off to the book store we went.
I’ll admit I was suspicious of this B&N program. I thought for sure the kids would only get one, lame, too-easy, cheaply printed/made book. I was surprised when there was a list with two dozen books the kids could choose from, ranging from simple reader books for Roo and Everett to 200+ page chapter books for Olivia and Calvin. And the best part is the kids can take part in these activities 4 times each summer!
Hurray for summer reading!
