Yesterday we went to Calvin‘s AP studio art show. It was up the hill by Macy’s, at Golden Tan. It was a really great show that the students put on. There were snacks at a band and even one student who is drawing as people walked by.
Calvin had two pieces in the show. Each student got to choose a song and then make a piece that represented that song. And then each student was also assigned a song and had to make a piece for that. Calvin‘s two songs were the kids are all right, and the truth. In one piece it was a multiple exposure of him in various positions in the front yard over at the Stevenson‘s house. He made the image look gritty and dark the sense of edginess. His other image, which was for learning the truth, was from his fire series. It was his friend sitting on the car, reading a newspaper. But it was a night shot and was lit from below, so all you see, is the newspaper and the kids face.it also had a strong sense of light and drama. I think Calvin has a really strong aesthetic in his artwork. I’m really pleased that he enjoys art and photography so much. That boy just has my heart!
